Weaknesses

  • Hinge is the failure point. A living hinge on a PP flip top cap will crack after ~3,000 flex cycles. Heavy-handed consumers may break it in months. The thicker the product (more squeeze force), the more aggressive the flip-open motion.

  • No hinge to break. The spring-disc mechanism has no flexing plastic component. Rated cycle life is typically higher (5,000+) than flip top hinges (3,000).
  • Lower profile. When not pressed, the disc top is a clean, flat surface. No protruding lid. Better for travel, gym bags, and space-constrained retail display.

Weaknesses

  • Smaller orifice = viscosity ceiling. Disc top orifices are typically 2–4 mm vs. 3–6 mm for flip tops. Products above ~15,000 cP (thick body butter, heavy creams) dispense slowly or require excessive finger pressure.
